about

This is a track written specifically for Mental Health in Motion's "Our Shades of Grief" dance film. They approached me needed a song to replace the one they were currently using. As I writer, I always try to find a "silver lining" for my songs. Mostly because I want people to like them and not be labeled a "sad song guy" or something like that. This provided an opportunity for me to forgo that reflex and branch out. Despite the melancholy, I actually really enjoyed working on this song and I'm glad its out now. If you have not seen the dance film I encourage you to seek it out.

lyrics

It’s been 18 years,
I’m wishing you were here so I could tell you all about my life
So I could look in your eyes
But still I’m standing here
I’m holding back my tears that build up over fears of what I could never change
But now they’re pouring down like rain

And I can’t see where I’m going
Rapids stay white I’m flowing
But that boat keeps on rocking and I don’t know how to stop it
Don’t know how to stop it oh no

I see peace off in the distance
I put love on my wishlist
Hope it’s change I bear witness
Hope it’s change I bear witness to

If misery loves company
Than why am I alone
